Disability Rights NC

Disability Rights North Carolina is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Raleigh. Its team of attorneys, advocates, paralegals and support staff provide advocacy and legal services at no charge for people with disabilities across North Carolina.

Advancing Strong Leadership in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities 2015

Advancing Strong Leadership in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ASLiIDD) is a leadership development initiative for early career professionals in the intellectual/developmental disability field in North Carolina. ASLiIDD offers participants to come together with a faculty of national experts on progressive supports for people with disabilities.

The North Carolina Partners in Policymaking 2014

The North Carolina Partners in Policymaking™(PiP) program brings people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and family members into the public discussion of principles and policies that affect their lives and their role in the community. Through PiP, participants communicate knowledgeably about issues and challenges in the disability community with public officials, legislators and the general public.

North Carolina Postsecondary Education Alliance

The North Carolina Postsecondary Education Alliance is a diverse group consisting of emerging leaders with developmental disabilities, representatives of state agencies and organizations, legislators, educators, and families and other advocates. Our mission is to expand the options for postsecondary education for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout North Carolina.

The Adaptables, Inc. CIL

The Adaptables Staff works to alleviate barriers that keep people with disabilities from full participation in their community. The Adaptables is one of over 300 federal and state supported Centers for Independent Living (CIL). All centers are consumer-controlled, community-based cross-disability, private, non-profit organizations. The Adaptables Inc., along with all other centers respect consumer choices, goals, and expertise. We provide advocacy, IL skills training, peer support, information, and referral services that combine to guarantee that people with disabilities have the chance to exercise control over their own lives.

North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum 2008, 2014, 2015

The North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum, supported by the Statewide Independent Living Council, North Carolina Centers for Independent Livings, North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities and Raleigh Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities. Hosted by Alliance of Disability Advocates, planned and run by NC young people with disabilities. We help to foster emerging youth and young adult leaders, teaching them to advocate in each of their communities and for themselves.

The NCYLF focuses on youth with disabilities in North Carolina, while educating them of basic disability civil rights and laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Through practical experiences, roleplaying, discussions, activities and testimonies, the NCYLF is here to empower today’s young adults with the knowledge they need to live full lives and teach other young people with disabilities about what the Independent Living Movement is all about.  NCYLF is a fully accessible event per request. NCYLF provides personal care assistants, certified nursing assistants, and interpreters. Any accommodation that you need and request NCYLF makes sure that you are able to participate fully while learning independent living skills along the way.

NC Business Leadership Network (NCBLN)

The NCBLN’s work is very simple and straight forward: to expand this business-to-business network which recognizes the opportunities created when focusing on and engaging people with disabilities; finding and hiring great talent; increasing market share in this $1 trillion market for products and services; and increasing supplier diversity.

This is truly a business organization, made up of businesses networking and helping each other navigate this world of working with, and marketing to, people with disabilities.

Cerebral Palsy Guidance

Cerebral Palsy Guidance was created to provide answers and assistance to parents of a child with cerebral palsy. Our goal is to reach as many members of the cerebral palsy community as possible, building up a network of support, as well as providing necessary assistance.

United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) may be one of the largest health nonprofits in the U.S. today, but that was not the case in 1949. In the 1940s, there were not many options for families of and people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
